The iPhone Dev Team has announced plans to release a hack that unlocks Apple’s iPhone 3G before the end of 2008. The hack named yellowsn0w will unlock iPhone 3G’s and allow their usage on GSM networks, thus giving iPhone 3G users a wider choice of carrier networks. Yellowsn0w will only work on iPhone 3G’s with 2.11.07 or older baseband and requires that the iPhone 3G be jailbroken. The unlock will be installable through Cydia and can thus be used by both PC and Macintosh users.

Now if only the rumor that the iPhone will come to Verizon in 2009 will come true, everyone will be happy.
