Apple insiders have recently reported that at the famous MacWorld Convention (mid-January) they expect Apple to announce the sale of 5 million iPhones. Despite AT&T’s announcement that a 3 G iPhone will be unvieled in 2008, the iPhone is selling at a record breaking pace. Apple sold over 1 million iPhones just 74 days after its release. A large majority of the the 5 million seem to be sold after the price of the iPhone was dropped in price to $399 from $599 - According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. Along with making a wave in
Europes three biggest markets, the iPhone is seeing nothing but success. Some Apple experts think Apple will release a 16GB iPhone upgrade at MacWorld in mid-January. Nothing has been confirmed yet. “Apple’s plan to sell 10 million iPhones next year represents a 1 percent piece of overall mobile phone sales, a target announced by CEO Steve Jobs when he unveiled the gadget in January at the annual MacWorld confab,” Whitman reports. “The sales would bring in at least a whopping $4.99 billion in revenue for Apple, and would surpass sales of most other smart phones.” “Apple isn’t concerned that sticker shock will take a bite out of the 10 million iPhones the company expects to sell in the device’s first year,” Janet Whitman reports for The New York Post. If the number of sold iPhones is confirmed, it will mean that Apple is halfway done on its goal of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008. This number will more then likely increase since they have 11 months left to go. Add in another price drop, new upgrades and possible major launches in countries like Japan, China, Spain and more, Apple and the iPhone are sure to shatter their goal.
