O2 has admitted that their online ordering system failed this week. The system was seeing strength of orders reaching 13,000 per second at times on Monday morning when the online ordering began. In an email sent out to customers, O2 stated its apology to existing iPhone users who were attempting to take advantage of the upgrade deal offering in advance earlier in the week. Under the advanced deal, iPhone users were able to contact the UK carrier and place an order for an upgrade, which would then be picked up on Friday when the new iPhone 3G begins shipping out.
O2 verified that the online upgrade offer sold out within just hours after it began and stressed that the network took in as many orders from O2 as it did all other networks combined.
