The iPhone 3G has a hardware GPS receiver included and this has made a navigation program with voice-based turn-by-turn directions, a desirable and possible app. MSNBC recently reported that many GPS manufacturers like Magellan, TomTom, and Garmin were in the process of developing a turn-by-turn GPS for the iPhone. TomTom, Dutch car navigation systems and software maker has mentioned that they have a version of their navigation software already running on Appleās iPhone and that they plan to sell it to customers. According to the reports, this app is likely some months away and might possibly be released by the end of the year. However there has been some doubt and confusion over the terms of the iPhone SDK regarding such applications. Rumors say that apple might even be developing its own app for this purpose.
